Things you learn traveling to a new home

This year we have joined the masses in the greatest housing boom since 2008.  The interest rates have plummeted lower this year than any other and it has caused so many people to decide to jump into a new home.  What we saw was a great opportunity to move into an area that we could never have gotten into before this year.  We saw interest rates allow us to get into a larger property and in one of the best places to live in 2020.  I am only amazed at the work that it took to do and to be honest getting there was not too hard.  We chose to move into a home that was in need of a lot of work.  Our home was super old for the neighborhood and in the worst shape.  But it was one of the largest homes and was all for the lowest price the neighborhood had ever seen. That meant we had the most potential to grow in value and in joy.  So we ended up packing up our cheap moving boxes and heading to this new location with the hopes of building it up and renovating it while we lived there. This was a complicated time and we thought we would tell about how we ended up working on the home and living in it at the same time.

If I could give any true strait-up advice for someone thinking about doing what we are doing it would be this.  You need to do all the work on the home you can before moving in.  This means if you can get the home and have some overlap between where you are living now and moving in then you should do it.  If you think it will take a month to fix up then live in your other location for a month while fixing it up.  This is a hard lesson we learned and it has taken us a lot longer to fix our home and also been much more complicated for our lives and maybe even our health.  This is an important thing to think about when moving into a home that needs renovation.

We ended up filling up half the home or more with our cheap moving boxes and stuff.  This meant that half the house was full and only half the house was open to being worked on.  Well, when you are working on each and every room in teh house this means that most of the house is completely full all of the time with either projects dangerous things around or just a full home with things.  This is a big issue and the only way we were able to overcome this was with a crazy organized lifestyle.  We had to live in a small area and try to finish a room at a time.  THis was really hard and when a painting is involved all the plastic and smells are just awful.  Winter was the time we moved in and it kept us from opening all the windows we needed and our heating bill spiked when we opened them anyway.

So be wise when you move and try to give yourself time in between to work on teh property before jumping in and setting up shop.
