hair embellishments

I finished the hair embellishments for the bridesmaids this weekend! I was definitely inspired by some ladies on etsy, like myrakim who are making these, but I wanted to watch my budget and make them myself. (total cost of materials was only 19.75 for all 5!) Also, Orion (my cat) totally helped by laying on top of everything...he also tried to eat all the feathers!

Materials:

-silk dupioni wide ribbon (cut petals / leaves) $5.00 /yd (from The Store Across the Street in the fashion district)

-tiny twigs $2.00/ bundle about (previously owned, also used in boutonnieres)

-tulle $2.00 /yd about (previously owned, also used in boutonnieres)

-vintage fuzzy stamens $4.00/ bunch (from tinsel trading in the fashion district)

-cruelty free guinea feathers $3.00 / handful (from RenewedResources on etsy)

-hot glue (who knows, I have had this for years...)

-barrettes $3.75 / .75 per pc. (at beads world in the fashion district)

oh my! these are gorgeous! could you in any way describe how you made these? you're so creative and although i know i could make them if i had directions, i won't be able to figure that out from your pictures alone!

i made these by bunching up the tulle and covering with hot glue (adhering to a piece of cardboard) Next, I hot glued the feathers on top the cardboard. Then I cut petal shapes from the silk and pinched the base together with a dot of hot glue in the center of the base (to give it a curved shape) Next, I literally just layered them on top of the tulle and feathers (hot glueing between each layer) Each flower took about 10 large and 4 small petals. The stamens, I bent in half and glued between petal layers. The twigs were just stuck into different layers with glue. Lastly, I glued a hair clip to the back of the cardboard and carefully cut around it. If I wasn't out of materials, I would remake and document ;( good advise for next project to give a how-to..thanks!
